Excitement. Wonder. A little nervousness. And the realization that this tiny person you have been waiting for will soon be in your arms.
Many families know they want professional photographs, but they aren't always sure which type of session is right for them. Should you choose birth photography? A Fresh 48 session? Both?
As a birth photographer and certified doula serving La Crosse area, Tomah, Black River Falls, Bangor, Mauston, and surrounding western Wisconsin communities, I help families preserve some of the most meaningful moments of their lives.
The truth is, birth photography and Fresh 48 photography are both beautiful—but they tell two very different parts of your baby's story.
Birth photography documents the story of your baby's arrival.
It is not just about the moment your baby is born. It is about everything that leads up to that moment—the anticipation, the emotions, the support, the strength, and the love surrounding your family as you welcome your baby into the world.
A birth photography session may include:
Birth is one of the biggest moments of your life, yet many parents say it becomes a blur afterward. Between the emotions, exhaustion, and overwhelming joy, those first moments can pass by so quickly.
Photography gives you the opportunity to return to those memories again and again.

A Fresh 48 session captures your baby's first hours after birth.
Unlike birth photography, Fresh 48 sessions take place after your baby has arrived—typically within the first 24–48 hours at the hospital, birth center, or sometimes at home.
These sessions focus on the quiet, beautiful details of your brand-new family.
A Fresh 48 session may include:
Fresh 48 sessions are relaxed and natural. There is no pressure to pose perfectly. The goal is simply to preserve what those first hours felt like.
Learn more about Fresh 48 sessions here:
❤️ The anticipation before meeting your baby
❤️ The labor experience
❤️ The emotions of your birth team
❤️ The exact moment your baby enters the world
❤️ The first moments immediately after birth
❤️ Your baby's first days earthside
❤️ Family bonding after delivery
❤️ Newborn details
❤️ Sibling introductions
❤️ A slower, calmer celebration of your new baby
Neither choice is better than the other. They simply preserve different parts of your story.
Many families choose birth photography because they never want to forget the journey of bringing their baby into the world. Other families choose Fresh 48 because those first hours together are the moments they most want remembered.
And some families choose both because together they tell the complete story.
Birth is unpredictable.
Every labor is different. Every baby arrives in their own way. Every family has their own story.
My approach is unique because I am not only there as your photographer—I am also a Certified Doula.
My experience supporting families through birth allows me to understand the rhythm of labor, recognize meaningful moments, and provide a calm presence while documenting your story.
My goal is never to take over your birth space. My goal is to quietly preserve the moments you may not even realize are happening.

Birth photographers typically take a limited number of births each month because your due date is unpredictable.
For that reason, many families choose to reserve their birth photographer during pregnancy.
Whether you are planning a hospital birth, birth center birth, or home birth, having your photographer chosen ahead of time allows you to focus on preparing for your baby's arrival.
No. Every birth story matters. Whether you have an unmedicated birth, an epidural, a planned induction, or a cesarean birth, your story deserves to be remembered.
Many people are surprised by how beautiful and emotional birth photography is. My focus is on connection, emotions, and the story of your baby's arrival—not images you would not want to see.
Absolutely. Your birth story belongs to your whole family. Partners, siblings, and important support people can all be part of documenting this incredible moment.
Yes! Many families choose to document their journey from pregnancy through baby's first year.

Your baby's birth day is a day you will never experience again.
The tiny details. The emotions. The first time you hear their cry. The way your partner looks at you. The moment your family changes forever.
Those memories are worth preserving.
If you are expecting and wondering whether birth photography or a Fresh 48 session is right for your family, I would love to hear your story.
