Lately I’ve been thinking about what kind of business I’m actually building.
Not what looks the most impressive.
Not what fills a calendar the fastest.
Just what feels honest for me — and for the families I serve here in La Crosse and the surrounding communities.
I photograph a lot of different seasons. Maternity. Birth. Newborn days at home. The baby who just learned to sit. One-year milestones. Small family sessions. Seniors standing on the edge of something new. Even the occasional intimate wedding.
From the outside, that might look like a wide range.
But it’s never felt that way to me.
Birth work feels sacred and steady.
Newborn sessions feel tender and quiet.
Six-month-olds are pure joy.
Seniors carry both excitement and nostalgia.
Family sessions feel familiar — like catching up with old friends.
The subject changes.
The heart behind it doesn’t.
What matters most to me has never been the category. It’s the connection. The trust. The feeling of being invited back.
There’s something incredibly meaningful about watching families grow — photographing a maternity session and later meeting that baby. Seeing a toddler I once held attention for now running toward me. Recognizing parents who no longer feel like strangers.
I don’t measure success by how full my calendar is. I measure it by how present I can be when someone steps in front of my camera.
I’ve never felt pulled to narrow this business down to one single type of session. Life doesn’t move in one direction. It unfolds. It layers. It shifts. And I feel grateful that my work gets to move alongside it — whether that’s documenting a birth, a growing family, or a senior year.
If you’ve been here before, thank you for trusting me more than once.
If you’re new and looking for a photographer in the La Crosse area who values connection just as much as the final images, I’m glad you found your way here.
However long our paths cross, I’m grateful to help tell a small part of your story.
